Astaxanthin

One of the most powerful antioxidants in nature

Astaxanthin belongs to the natural plant pigments of the carotenoids. The natural substance occurs naturally in the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis, but also in some fungi and bacteria.

Effect & Application

Astaxanthin is considered one of nature's strongest antioxidants and can therefore prevent oxidation processes caused by free radicals in organisms. This means that cell damage due to reactive oxygen particles or UV light is prevented, and thus preliminary cell aging can be slowed down.

Since many diseases are due to oxidative stress, the natural substance astaxanthin with its antioxidant effect has many uses. For example, it protects the skin from UV damage and counteracts skin aging. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory properties and can improve the body's own immune defenses as well as the function of the central retina.

Recommended daily amounts

A dose of 4-8mg astaxanthin per day is recommended. This is considered the ideal daily intake for people exposed to oxidative stress as well as for people exposed to strong sunlight.
