Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is one of the oldest culinary herbs and is also known as Chinese parsley. The seeds and leaves can be used as a spice.
The herb belongs to the umbelliferae family and is native to the Mediterranean region. Nowadays, the plant is cultivated and used everywhere. The annual plant bears white flowers in June to July, which then form fruits.
Ingredients
Coriander oil can be extracted from these fruits. The essential oil consists mainly of the monoterpene linalool. The oil also contains other monoterpenes such as camphor, alpha-terpinene and gamma-terpinene.
The leaves of the herb are rich in vitamins A, C and K.
