BIOFACH, the world's leading trade fair for organic food and natural products, was held from February 13 - 16, 2024, and we were there! The trade fair offered a comprehensive insight into the latest trends and innovations in the organic sector. Below we would like to summarize our impressions and observations of the visit.
Product variety
Biofach presented an impressive variety of products, all under the umbrella of sustainability and organic certification. Particularly striking was the wide range of convenience products, including a variety of bars and other snack options. These were offered in a variety of flavors and compositions, demonstrating a growing market segment for convenient and healthy snacks.
Trends
A clear trend at the trade fair was the presence of mushroom products in various forms and preparations. There were variations ranging from dried mushroom mixtures to mushroom powders and extracts. These products are indicators of consumers' growing interest in plant-based alternatives and functional foods.
Coffee and protein products
It was also noticeable that coffee and protein products played an important role at the trade fair. The offerings ranged from fair-trade organic coffee to plant-based protein sources. This illustrates the continuing boom in these two product categories and their growing importance for an increasingly health-conscious clientele.
Raw materials
Compared to the end products, the range of raw materials on offer was rather limited, but selected specifically and appropriately. High-quality raw materials were presented, which represent an important component of organic food production. Despite the smaller number of raw material suppliers, the quality and variety of the products presented was remarkable.
Conclusion
Die Messe erwies sich einmal mehr als wichtiger Treffpunkt der Bio-Branche, auf dem Innovationen präsentiert und zukünftige Trends gesetzt werden. Die Vielfalt der Produkte, von Fertigprodukten über Pilzprodukte bis hin zu Kaffee und Proteinen, zeigt die Dynamik und das Wachstum dieses aufstrebenden Marktes. Obwohl der Schwerpunkt auf den Endprodukten lag, waren auch die vorgestellten Rohstoffe von hoher Qualität und Relevanz für die Lebensmittelproduktion.
