The medicinal plant meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) is also called meadow queen, wild lilac or meadow honeysuckle. It is a perennial herbaceous plant with a growth height of over one meter, belonging to the rose family. It is native to northern America, central Europe and northern areas of Asians. During the flowering period from June to August, meadowsweet forms large umbels with yellowish-white flowers.
Ingredients
The plant is considered a medicinal herb. The flowers are used, which contain essential oils, tannins, flavonoids and salicylic acid. Few people know that aspirin can be traced back to meadowsweet. Salicylic acid was isolated from it.
Effect & Application
Due to its antipyretic and analgesic properties, the medicinal herb is often used for flu-like conditions. In addition, it can have anti-inflammatory, diaphoretic, blood purifying and detoxifying effects.
The plant can be used both internally, as in the case of colds, and externally, for example, for rheumatic complaints.
