Effect and application

Indian pennywort (Centella asiatica) belongs to the umbellifer family. The plant is also known as Asian pennywort, gotu kola or tiger grass and is native to tropical America, Africa, India, China, Japan and the Pacific islands. It is now widespread in tropical as well as subtropical regions worldwide.

Ingredients

The plant contains asiatic acid, flavonoids, saponins, essential oils, triterpene saponins, kaempferol and many other ingredients.

Fields of application

The species is used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is now also gaining more attention in Europe.

Due to its ingredients, Indian pennywort has many uses. The plant can be used both internally and externally.

It is used, for example, for skin complaints such as acne, psoriasis, dry skin or for scar treatment and poorly healing wounds.

In addition, Indian pennywort also helps with irritable bowel syndrome, rheumatism or stomach problems.
