Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices in the world. Native to Sri Lanka, the spice is still considered a treasure. Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) is a tree species that belongs to the laurel family. It grows between six and ten meters high.

Ingredients

The cinnamon bark contains many important ingredients. Among them essential oil, diterpenes, tannins and phenolic carboxylic acids.

Application

In general, Ceylon cinnamon promotes appetite and stimulates intestinal activity. Consequently, it can be used for gastrointestinal complaints such as flatulence, bloating, diarrhea or nausea. In addition, it can influence the blood sugar level.

Ceylon cinnamon is said to have expectorant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
